These products include – voice and sound systems that can be accessed using a command controller for people with impaired vision and are able to inform people with impaired vision about their location and the place they are finding themselves at, at the moment. They are produced both for the Czech Republic (86,790 MHz frequency) and for Slovakia (87,100 MHz and 87,050 MHz frequencies).
Using signal commands from people with impaired vision
At present people with impaired vision can use the following command transmitter buttons to control the surrounding signalization:

B 1. | This command activates general orientation beacons in the surroundings (e.g. beeps, voice). It can be activated once by pressing the button shortly and repeatedly by pressing the button longer. In the case of stop (station) panels it e.g. announces the name of the stop. |
B 2. | This command is for additional (specifying) announcements, e.g. announcements concerning opening times. |
B 3. | A question about the line that supplies information about the number of the line and the direction of the public transportation vehicle (announces outside the vehicle). |
B 4. | A confirmation for the driver that a person with impaired vision has entered the vehicle or a notice to the driver that a person with impaired vision is going to get off the vehicle. |
B 5. | A command used to activate voice signalization at crossroads (a more detailed description at the EPNEV 3.17 set). |
B 6. | A command used for reading text from stop (station) information panels. When pressed repeatedly it browses through the lines on the panel, i.e. the present reading is ended and the system immediately starts the reading of the next line. |
All command receivers for people with impaired vision are designed for 6 or more commands and it is possible to add other functions at any time (they can be programmed directly in the application).
Basic common parameters of the EPNEV command receivers
The command receivers work on the frequency of 86.790 MHz in accordance with the general permission from the CTU (Czech Telecommunication Office) and on the frequency of 87.100 MHz and 87.050 MHz in accordance with the permission from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic. They passed the EMC test and they are compatible with transmitters for people with impaired vision which are supplied by the ELVOS and APEX companies and paid for by health insurance companies. Receiver sensitivity is usually set from 5 m to 30 m by using a suitable antenna

Command receivers in production (CZ and SK)
We are preparing a new line of EPNEV receivers EPNEV 3.1x that should be gradually introduced to the market by the end of 2013. Compared with the present version, they have significantly higher selectivity and resistance against unwanted near frequencies which other receivers at the market do not have (both ours and from other companies). This ensures receiver functionality even when there is a high-performance FM radio transmitter in the surroundings.
The basic command receiver types and groups are:
Orientation voice systems
-systems designed to use voice to supply information to people with impaired vision with the goal of guiding them to a demanded location or of helping them orientate themselves in space.
Orientation acoustic system - OAS supplies acoustic voice information (the OAS-HJ unit) in accordance with commands form the command transmitter and it also arranges communication with attendants (receptions or office windows) using communication units of the system (OAS-KJ). The OAS system is suitable for entrances of buildings, offices, post offices, etc. where entering the building is possible only with the assistance of a member of the service personnel.
- Digital voice beacon – OAS 121 uses voice to supply information to people with impaired vision in accordance with received commands and thus ensures that they orientate themselves. After receiving a command from the command transmitter, the digital voice beacon (the voice unit of the OAS system) plays the chosen acoustic announcement. There can be more of these beacons in the surroundings to ensure that they direct people with impaired vision to their goal with as high accuracy as possible. Voice beacons can be “phased” in time, i.e. if there are two beacons in the surroundings they can be turned on one after the other.
- Voice signalization receiver for people with impaired vision EPNEV 4.00 – this receiver uses voice to give information to people with impaired vision for the maximum time of 1 minute. Beeps on a chosen channel can be added to the voice communication (it has been replaced by the voice unit of the OAS system).
EPNEV 3.0x command receivers (replaced by the EPNEV 3.1x line)
- EPNEV 3.06 independent command receivers for people with impaired visioncontrolled via the RS 485 busbar – meant mainly for trains belonging to the ČD.
- EPNEV 3.06 command receivers – The command receiver plays beeps and communicates via RS 485.
- EPNEV 3.06D command receivers – The command receiver plays beeps, opens vehicle doors and communicates via RS 485.
- EPNEV 3.05 independent command receivers for people with impaired visionwith external beeps for trains of the ČD – meant mainly for trains of the 814 type belonging to the ČD.
- EPNEV 3.04 independent command receivers for people with impaired vision - these receivers are designed mainly for public transportation vehicles that use the IBIS (IPIS) busbar to communicate. They can be upgraded with open door signalization (beeps above the first set of doors) and if requested they can also open the doors (realized by the demand system). Commands received via the IBIS busbar are processed by the on-board computer (a superordinate unit EPIS 4.0 or EPIS 5 FCC).
- EPNEV 3.04 I command receiver – a signalization receiver for people with impaired vision meant mainly for the IDS (a low-coat version)
- EPNEV 3.04 TD command receiver – a signalization receiver for people with impaired vision meant mainly for municipal public transportation – internal beeps and door opening on demand.
- EPNEV 3.04 TDE command receiver – a signalization receiver for people with impaired vision meant mainly for municipal public transportation – internal beeps and door opening on demand.
EPNEV 3.1x command receivers (a new line)
- EPNEV 3.14 - for public transportation vehicles that use the IBIS (IPIS) busbar to communicate. Available from January 2014.
- EPNEV 3.15 - with external beeps for the ČD trains – meant mainly for trains of the 814 type belonging to the ČD.
- EPNEV 3.16 – receivers with the RS 485 interface, door opening and beeps.
- EPNEV 3.17 – for crossroads control units.
- EPNEV 3.18 - receivers with the Ethernet busbar and the ability to work with the voltage from +12V to +60V (a standard version and an HV version (High Voltage – 60V). Already available.
Embedded command receivers
- EPNEV 2.02 embedded command receiver for people with impaired vision – this command receiver is supplied for applications that process commands from people with impaired vision (digital annunciator units, voice beacons, station panels, etc.).
- EPNEV 1.12 embedded command receiver for people with impaired vision meant for EPIS 2.36 and EPIS 2.45 digital annunciator units and for electronic station panels. The receivers are not capable of independent functioning – they do not have a control unit.
