Information stop LED panels

Information stop LED panels

General properties of stop LED panels

Electronic  display stop panels (hereinafter ELP) are systems designed to display both text and graphic information and to provide to passengers on stops voice information about arrivals, delays, departures of public transportation vehicles or about exceptional traffic situations and other events in the surrounding region.

In comparison with rival LED and mainly LCD solutions, these panels are characterized primarily by their very good readability in any weather conditions (above all in direct sunlight), long lifespan and low input power. For example one line of text of a LED panel for ELP 310 (double faced, 5 lines of text) has average yearly power consumption of 7 W per one line of text while a similar surface of a higher illumination display (615 cm2) would consume at least twice as much energy and it would be very hard to read in direct sunlight from the distance of 15 m.

The ELP information panels are produced in various sizes and renderings. Their LED diode surface can be either seamless without spaces between lines creating a graphic surface where texts are displayed or there can be spaces between the lines making it suitable for texts and simple symbols. If the surface with spaces between lines is used text readability increases while the price decreases.

LED panels are produced in red, yellow and white color; however, other colors are possible if requested.

Information LED panels can be attached to poles or walls using various types of anchor (usually a mechanic frame on the back of the panel). If requested a mechanic frame can be built in the LED panels. They are characterized by a wider LED diode spacing (and thus also by visibility from a distance) than digital stop signs.

Communication abilities of the ELP panels include:

  •  GSM/GPRS or UMTS module
  • Alternatively via the internet (ADSL).
  • WiFi modules for the purpose of interconnecting more panels on stops.
  • WiFi modules providing public internet connection to passengers (a public HOT SPOT).
  • RS 485 busbar, Ethernet or optic cables with   „media“converters.

Basic rendering of electronic LED panels

The basic rendering of LED panels is as follows:

Graphic LED panels – SLIM

These are panels that are narrow and simpler mechanical structure than 3xx series panels ELP, and therefore belongs to the low-cost solutions. Internal electronics are identical to the solution ELP 3xx series panels.

Graphic LED panels – STANDARD

since their LED diode surface is seamless without spaces between lines, these panels can display both text and graphic information. They are characterized by the fact that the demanded information or graphics can be displayed in variously defined “windows”. They are available in various sizes from two lines to e.g. 15 lines and also in various renderings.

Text ELP panels with spaces

These panels are designed to display only text information. They contain letters, numbers, alphanumeric signs and possibly user defined semi-graphic symbols. They are available in various sizes ranging from two lines to ten lines.

Combined color stop LED panels (text)

These panels are designed for cases when it is necessary to use colors to distinguish types of transportation, e.g. red for municipal public transportation, yellow for regional public transportation and white for trains. Trains are displayed on a separate part of the panel – this part has only one color – white.

Basic properties of information LED panels

Basic properties of the ELP panels with LED diodes:

  • High performance ELP CCU (control communication unit) control unit module containing an industrial PC, an Ethernet interface (or TPoE), an interface for radio modules GSM/GPRS/UMTS/TAIT/ISM-FHSS, circuits charging backup accumulators.
  • MP3 player with an acoustic switchboard (15W) with the possibility of sending dispatching announcements directly to stop speakers.
  • High performance ELP MCU module controlling the LED matrix (30.0 Hz).
  • Integrated EPNEV 1.13  command receiver for the vision impaired which posses the ability to read a displayed text including browsing.
  • Illumination regulation controlled by sensors on both sides of the panel (valid for double faced panels).
  • Receiving of accurate time and automatic synchronization
  • Cameras for sending pictures or videos of the number of passengers on stops and their behavior.
  • LED diode spacing 4-10 mm. Their color depends on the customer.
  • Improvements of communication abilities in the form of a stop LCD display, a simple keyboard and a voice interface to allow passengers to communicate directly with dispatchers.
  • The last line can be reserved for the public announcement and warning system JSVV.
  • Independent windows can be used to display texts or graphics.
  • Low input power solution (diodes do not overheat). This is made possible by a special construction of the MELP voltage pre-converters with 90% efficiency and by the voltage control of these panels. This method saves up to 40% of energy in comparison with the rival solution.
  • Their lifespan is significantly prolonged by their controlled ventilation depending on their inner temperature.
  • Remote servicing – of the PC program, sounds of acoustic announcements, schedules, FW of all control units and processors, remote control of the state of the units, temperature and voltage reading etc.
  • Thanks to the modular technology, these panels can be easily modified to suit the customer demands.
