WAYS OF CONTROLING THE EPIS 5 FCC

Page content:

Thanks to a large LCD display (10.4″) and a high quality capacity touchscreen the EPIS 5 FCC on-board computer with checking allows new ways of controlling checking in of passengers and setting the vehicle information systems. A simplified description can be found below.

The following description will be further specified and updated for the development of the on-board computer control application is still in progress. We would also like to apologize for the picture quality.

Current important screens of the EPIS 5 FCC on-board computer with checking:

  1. Initial screen of the EPIS 5 FCC
  2. Public transportation ticket sale screen
  3. Regional public transportation ticket without connection sale screen
  4. Regional public transportation ticket with connection sale screen
  5. Route screen

The Initial Screen of the EPIS 5 FCC

The initial screen allows the driver to choose a specific line or connection according to the route, browse and print individual schedules, choose checking in, work with a contactless chip card, finish or open deductions, set the system or check its state, log out and  perform other activities. The right sidebar allows the user to quickly switch the screens – the initial screen, the ticket sale screen, the contactless chip card state screen, the setting screen and the return button. The lines on the bottom of the screen describe the state of the vehicle and of the on-board computer (information systems, communication with the dispatching, GPS, check-in)

The Public Transportation Ticket Sale Screen

If the driver enters the number of the line (manually or automatically according to the route) the on-board computer sets the list of prices assigned to the line (in this case a simplified public transportation price list) that is not kilometer based. In this case the price list is very simple – full fare, concessionary fare, special and free of charge fare – in this case the price list applies to the whole line. For the reasons of evidence the driver has to (not unconditionally) choose the tariff number of the target stop when issuing a ticket. It is possible to pay in cash or use a card. The system is based on moving the starting stop according to the GPS position therefore the starting stop is set automatically.

The Regional Public Transportation Ticket without Connection Sale Screen

In the case of a standard regional line the on-board computer automatically sets the price list assigned to the line when the driver enters the number of the line (in this case VLD – regional public transportation). In this case the price list is more complex – kilometer based with a number of price groups. When issuing the ticket the driver has to choose the tariff number of the target stop. The screen is preset for “ordinary fare” and the starting stop (preset using GPS) to simplify the issuing of a ticket (if the driver knows the tariff numbers of the stops.). The driver only chooses the tariff number of the target stop and the method of payment.

The Regional Public Transportation Ticket with Connection Sale Screen

In the case of a standard regional line the on-board computer automatically sets the list of prices assigned to the link (in this case VLD – regional public transportation) when the driver enters the number of the line. When issuing the ticket, the driver has to choose the tariff number of the target stop (by entering its number manually or choosing the number from the help screen containing the stops on the line). The on-board computer also allows the user to enter connections, i.e. the passenger can buy a ticket for a connection and therefore save money for the tickets. The driver can see the connections on the right side of the top of the screen where  connections as well as corresponding stops can be chosen.

The Route Screen

The on-board computer allows the driver to control the drive by entering individual lines and connections which can be quite unpleasant especially in case of short lines (entering frequently). Another possibility is entering the number of the route only once before the initial departure and then only confirming the following lines/connections of the route. On the next screen, a demonstration of a chosen route of the transporter 100010 with an assembly of individual lines and connections according to how the driver carries them out can be seen. This assembly can be entered into and new lines/connections can be chosen manually (in case of a vehicle change, a delay, etc.).
