Combined Double Faced LED/LCD panels

Combined Double Faced LED/LCD panels

General properties of combined double faced LED/LCD panels

Combined double faced vehicle panels have:

  • a display surface equipped with LED diodes functioning as a standard side vehicle tableau on one side of the panel  (see below pic. no. 1),
  • a widescreen LCD display displaying the route to the passengers  on the other side of the panel inside the vehicle  ((see below pic. no. 2).

These double faced panels have two control units and 2 interfaces, one for controlling the LED panel (IBIS, ETHERNET) and one for controlling the LCD display (usually only Ethernet). The double faced panel as a whole is adapted for using one or two power supply lines that feed the two display systems. If our power supply concept based on EPIS 4.0x on-board computers   is used the HS power supply is be used for outer LED panels (turns off after arriving at the terminus to save energy) and the CS power supply is used for LCD panels (turns off after a period of time is spent at the terminus).

The panel is controlled via an on-board computer using IBIS or Ethernet busbar or a combination of both. The display surfaces are thus independent of each other and are controlled separately via the on-board computer. All data displaying is controlled by the on-board computer.

Considering the mechanical rendering this double faced panel must comply with both sizes – i.e. the length of the side LED panel and the height of the widescreen LCD. Individual LED panels and LCD displays can be combined as the customer wishes.

Parameters of the LED panel part

Generally it is possible to use any of our side LED tableaus – from VLP 19 to VLP 30  with control busbars IBIS, RS 485 or Ethernet. The ways of displaying text on the LED panel include: static, rotating, inverse and even graphic surface. The user can choose the way text is displayed. Information is displayed in a chosen color of the panel – green, orange or yellow etc. The size of the displayed signs can be set based on the chosen font. Texts can be created for the panels using own fonts and icons (school bus, handicapped accessible transport, detour, trial run, surrogate bus transport, train connection etc.).

Outer LED panels (direction indicators – tableaus) can be reprogrammed remotely from an on-board computer (both SW and data). The panels have electronic brightness regulation according to the intensity of surrounding light. This regulation is based on LED diode voltage regulation and a time multiplex.  Voltage regulation ensures low power consumption and lengthens the lifespan of the panel (the maximum LED operation mode is way below the maximum values – about 30%). The side tableau can have average (not maximum) power consumption of only 20 W (if the new low input power tableaus are used – Line D). The panel is designed as a 300 Hz general unit where the user can define various display windows. The panels are typical for maximum usage of active surface for displaying.

Parameters of the side LCD panel part

The parameters of the inner side LCD panelare the same as of the VCS types but they can differ in the supplied LCD (from 19″ to 38″) based on the wishes of the customer. The widescreen rendering with 1920 x 540 point resolution (1920 x 502 points) is the most common one.

We provide a special software – CityScreenInfo – for creating scripts (individual display cycles) for LCD panels while on the route. The software has a graphic user interface that ensures quick and easy managing and creating of scripts for CityScreen  LCD panels.
