Unit usage

The sensor unit of the UCP-02 counting system (unit of counting passengers) is equipped with a high performance control unit for recording and mainly for the following picture processing. The recorded signal from a stereo camera is computationally processed on-line in the unit and converted to a numeric form in the sensor (passengers getting on/off when the doors are open). That is the reason why this camera system is not in conflict with the personal data protection law. The result of the processing is information about the number of passengers getting on/off through the door above which the unit is placed. This information is sent to the superordinate unit of the system which then sends it to the on-board system – adds information about time, stop, GNSS (GPS) position, service, drive, driver, etc.)

The unit has double usage:

  • it is controlled by EPIS on-board computers  (EPIS 4.0x or EPIS 5.0x). In this case the data for processing in  SW ADA  is prepared by these on-board computers.
  • it is controlled by a different on-board computer in a vehicle – in this case it is necessary to send the basic information for processing from this on-board computer. The UCP unit above the front door usually acts as the control unit and the other units are subordinate to it. The accuracy of static processing depends on the data obtained for this processing i.e. the knowledge of the schedule in the evaluation SW.
  • it is used in an application other than a vehicle – e.g. for monitoring pedestrians and cyclists in doors or gates. In this case the evaluation SW creates more of a time load of the path of pedestrians or cyclists.

Technical parameters

The new type of the UCP – 02 unit is based on a high performance control unit which allows it to make at least 20 pictures with high disparity map resolution per second (dense point distribution under the unit).

Usage in a vehicle

The units will be connected via an Ethernet busbar which will also power them (system PoE – passive type B). The UCP-02 units are only connected by one UTP cable which provides data communication and power at the same time. This lowers the requirements of present and future system installation. Moreover it will also be possible to monitor whether the units are powered and also to switch them on/off by using intelligent communication between an on-board computer and the  ECU – 08P0 (see eth. Switch description) Ethernet switch. In choosen cases also by ECU 08P1 or ECU 08P3.

Mechanical execution

Mechanical execution is usually custom prepared based on the vehicle profile. The below listed measurement are illustrative and can be modified at a request. During installation, heat loss of the unit has to be taken into account and “some” space has to be left above it to allow the unit to cool (it must not be placed directly into the vehicle roof isolation material). The “pass under” height of the unit position has to be solved as well during installation.

Possible execution and anchor solutions:

Version Fabion

This execution is used in round spaces and is characterized by the possibility of turning the unit to achieve the optimal shot of the door space.

Direct execution

This execution is mainly suitable when there is enough space behind the unit where the unit can be embedded. The unit cannot be turned and this is done by using SW to define the space when the unit is configured.

Protruding execution

This execution is similar to the previous one, however there is no cooling space above the unit or there are bearing features of the vehicle ceiling above it that cannot be disturbed.
